The Apollo Legacy: Latin Jazz! with Bobby Sanabria

Multi-Grammy-nominated drummer, percussionist, composer, arranger, and educator Bobby Sanabria and the Bobby Sanabria Big Band for a musical journey through the Latin traditions that have flourished at the Apollo from big band mambo, bumba, and bolero to son montuno, cha-cha-cha, and bossa nova, as well as their fusion with jazz. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing: How the Apollo Theater Shaped American Entertainment and in collaboration with the Apollo Theater on March 28, 2011.
Since the 1940s, the Apollo Theater has served as an important venue for Latin music, bringing African-American and Latin musical traditions and communities into conversation and creating an opportunity for innovation.
