JAZZ in TRINIDAD

Jazz shows increased in 2010. Among them were “Jazz Artistes on the Greens” that featured Canadian-based Kalabash, Jason Baptiste and Afrolypso Cuban jazz violinist William Roblejo and his Trio, NY-based R’kardo St’von and Brenda Butler and internationally acclaimed trumpeter Brownman. The “Jazz Experience in Tobago” in Mt Irvine featured [Ronald] “Boo” Hinkson, Vaughnette Bigford…Arturo Tappin, [Jerry] Tilitz Quartet while…Pigeon Point Heritage Park featured…Elan Parle, Clive Zanda and Kay Alleyne who some thought upstaged the main act. The Kariwak Players and Etienne Charles and his quartet were also on the playlist.
[The] “Women in Jazz” series at Movie Towne featured Glenda Collens, Mavis John, Patty Rogers, Ruth Osmanand Anne Fridal…
“International Jazz Day” had Brazilians Camila Costa…and at “Jazz at the Top” – Kaizen Fusion, Mavis John andMungal Patasar. Etienne Charles and Ray Holman teamed up again for “Jazz on the Range II”…
Ray Holman was in the spotlight for QRC Foundation’s Ninth Annual TT Steel Pan and Jazz Festival on a night when Tropical Storm Tomas was forecasted to hit the country. “Celebrating Ray” went on as scheduled and those who turned up for the event were treated to a great night of music. Sharing the stage with Holman were the Couva Joylanders…US-based [Trinidadian] Etienne Charles [Quartet], Cuban saxophonist Cesar Lopez… Also performing on the night were Ming Low Chew Tung and elan parle…
