‘Jazzup the Runway’
The third woman of African heritage to capture the Miss Universe crown and the second Miss Universe in history, Wendy Fitzwilliam from Trinidad and Tobago, consented to be the PATRON of ‘Jazzup The Runway’ which was scheduled for Sunday 29th May at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre Hall from 6:00pm.
Four of jazz’s best musicians graced the stage alongside some of Trinidad and Tobago’s top designers and models. T&T got the opportunity to experience talents such as internationally acclaimed Jazz Vocalist KIMMIE HORNE (niece of the legendary jazz vocalist and actress Lena Horne), New Orleans’ top trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis (brother of Wynton and Branford), saxophonist Arturo Tappin, and the Sean Thomas Trio.
These ace musicians merged with five of TnT’s hippest & most controversial young Designers such as Christian Boucaud, Shurnel, Chiz*L Mensware, Koko Karibi Designs and Off The Hook Dzigns.
‘Jazz up the Runway’ is an annual event produced by Sean Thomas and the Jazz Alliance of Trinidad and Tobago (JATT) combining local fashion designers and Jazz musicians simultaneously on one stage. The show aims to build stronger ties between international and local jazz musicians with local fashion designers and top models. This in turn should help foster a movement of sound, fashion and colours from Trinidad and Tobago to the rest of the world. Thomas says, “The show is also building to a point where it can provide a focal point in the tourism calendar for Trinidad and Tobago, with opportunities for a constant partnering with international talents and institutions with the best of T&T.“
