Jo Jo Restaurant and Bar is the orbit that Victor Provost’s Synthesis Trio will take on Tuesday, November 24. The Pan Man will preside over the establishment’s Pre-Thanksgiving celebration with Contemporary and World Jazz vibes aided by bassist Eric Wheeler and drummer Nate Jolley. This is essentially a send-off to the homesick who on Thursday will head off in all directions to be home for the turkey and trimmings.

Cuban drummer Dafnis Prieto wielded those sticks again at Walker Art Center, McQuire Theater, Minneapolis on November 21 2009. The Dafnis Prieto Sextet of Peter Apfelbaum and Felipe Lamoglia (sax), Ralph Alessi (tp), Manuel Valera (p), Charles Flores (b) and Prieto (d), was brought to the McQuire Theater by Northrop Jazz and Walker Art Center.
Patti Rogers, one of Trinidad & Tobago’s finest songbirds showcased her refined voice, raw talent and stage presence @ drink! winebar, 63 Rosalino Street, Woodbrook, Trinidad on Thursday, November 19. Harmonic accompaniment was provided by Ronald Aqui (keyboard), Russell Durity (bass) and Winston Matthews (drums).

The Fred Shaw Plaza at Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus was all abuzz on Friday, November 20 2009 on account of the presence of Latin Jazz stalwarts and then some. Arturo Sandoval, Nestor Torres and Ed Calle were just the cream of the crop who converged on 11011 SW 104 ST Miami for the 3rd MDC Latin Jazz Festival.

Mayagüez Jazz Fest 2009 presented its fifth annual edition on 13th, 14th and 15th November at Teatro Yagüez, Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The festival producers dedicated this event in honour of the great masters of Jazz and Latin Jazz. Doing the honours though were some of the prominent Jazz musicians of western PR, among them trumpet Maestro Charlie Sepulveda, six string bass majagüezano Aldemar Valentin, Jazz Posteao, the Army Jazz Band, Negroni Trio, guitarist Jaime Vásquez and Ray Monrouzeau.
World renowned Steel Pan Jazz recording artist Andy Narell joined forces with calypso legend Relator to explore the role of Jazz in vintage calypso. Together, they performed classic compositions by the late Grand Master Lord Kitchener and other great Calypso pioneers, supported by a group of world-class Latin-jazz cats such as Jonathan Jurion and Thierry Fanfant from the French West Indies.
Narell and Relator’s special guest at this London date was Trinidadian trumpeter Etienne Charles. This was Caribbean Jazz at its finest!
